“See Your Food”

How did I end up at Valois Cafeteria? Well, when you’re looking for a place to grab breakfast with your friend who is moving out of town and one restaurant is at the top of every list that you look at you go there. Located in beautiful Hyde Park, Valois operates with the goal of getting a warm filling meal into your hands as quickly as possible. They serve up excellent food, cafeteria style, at a great price with an unbeatable atmosphere. We went at 11:00 AM on a Tuesday so I think we missed the rush but from what I’ve heard it’s usually pretty busy. Being my first time there and not knowing how things worked the staff did come off as a little rude but once I got the swing of things which didn’t take long all was right in the world. I ordered the N.Y. Steak and Eggs with a cup of Kool-Aid and the total came out to roughly $13. My friend ordered the Steak Omelet with a cup of coffee and it was even cheaper than that.

The N.Y. Steak and Eggs consisted of a generous size piece of strip steak served with two eggs, hash browns and toast. Now I’ve never had steak and eggs before so I don’t have anything to compare it to but coming from someone who just loves food this was plain and simply a really good meal. The steak itself was bursting with flavor while eggs, hash browns and toast serve as a staple in any noteworthy breakfast. The Steak Omelet consisted of the same delicious steak and American cheese served with hash browns and toast as well. When I asked my friend to give me a review, he said, “The Steak Omelet, thrown together and on a plate in less than 7 minutes, felt more like an artist’s masterpiece than a breakfast combo. Valois’ refined mastery of cooking a quick, cheap breakfast created a meal that was gone nearly as fast as it was made. Devouring the cheesy, gooey omelet with the home fries to boot left me both full and fulfilled.” Oh and whatever you do, don’t forget to order the Kool-Aid! Do I really need to explain why?

Next time someone wants to grab breakfast or lunch in Hyde Park, I would love try another one of President Obama’s Favorites or one of their hot sandwiches. Also, the word on the street is that the former First Lady is quite partial to the peach cobbler so I wouldn’t mind seeing what all the fuss is about.

When it comes to Valois Cafeteria, I give it a 4 out of 5 sporks. If I hadn’t been distracted by the Chipotle right down the street for the past two years I would have discovered this gem a long time ago. With that being said, if you are looking for some all-around great food without breaking the bank then this is the spot for you. Check it out!
