It has been far too long! Welcome to another edition of The Weekend Chronicles, a weekly series that details all of the crazy and exciting things that happened over the weekend. Before we get started talking about this past weekend I want to catch you up on all that has been going on since you’ve last heard from me. The past two weekends were filled with watching Delta Sigma Pi (the professional business fraternity that I had the privilege of being a part of in college) initiate a new class of brothers, catching up with great friends and as always amazing food! My challenge to you the last time you heard from me was to catch up with someone that you hadn’t seen in a while. Did you do it? If you did I would love to hear all about how it went. My challenge to you this week is to think about something that you were once passionate about and think about why you lost that passion. With that being said, let’s get started!
After work on Friday I set off to the city to watch my alma mater Northern Illinois University take on Bowling Green University in the MAC Football Championship Game with my friend Rob “The Best” Willer. We had plans of going to the Trophy Room, a sports bar in Chicago, but it was standing room only so we set our sights on finding somewhere else to watch the game. We checked the NIU Website and the only other place nearby that was hosting a watch party was a bar by the name of Beer on Clark. We chuckled at the name, gave them a call and fortunately enough for us they still had some seats open at the bar that we were able to reserve.
The atmosphere of the bar was incredibly different from that of the Trophy Room and more fitting for two recent college graduates from the suburbs. After we got settled in we were greeted by the bartender with an offer that we couldn’t resist. A measly $30 for all-you-can-drink and your choice of a burger or chicken sandwich and fries. Sadly they lost but it was a great night with one of my best friends cheering on our favorite team. When it comes to Beer on Clark, I give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I will definitely be going back to watch NIU take on Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl!
Before we knew it, it was Saturday and that meant the long awaited Ugly Sweater Party at the infamous Cori Stewart and Stephanie Castro’s place. Since I am always full of Christmas spirit whenever this time of year rolls around I decided to head over early to help decorate. This involved helping the girls pick out a real Christmas tree which is a first for me from what I can remember and helping prepare the snacks that I would surely be indulging in later that night. Before long the apartment looked like a winter wonderland and it was time to let loose. Believe it or not, I was thinking about dressing up as Santa Claus but I decided last minute to stick with the ugly sweater. It ended up being one heck of a night with an awesome group of people and now I have a something to wear on Christmas.
This Sunday like most was spent recuperating for the week ahead which meant giving my body what it needed most, delicious food. Where better to begin than with some Chipotle? As I’m guessing you can assume, it did not disappoint. That was followed by some classic Christmas movies then a short drive home where I finished the third book in the Harry Potter series, Prisoner of Azkaban, and the called it a night. I wonder what next weekend has in store for me!
As always thank you for stopping by and for following my journey. I apologize to those of you who have been looking for these posts the last couple of weeks and were disappointed when they never came. I’m looking forward to posting more often and also for what lies ahead. If you haven’t already be sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram. Until next time!
